The Challenge
The school is located in the Mt. Elgon, Kimilili–Chwele area, about 200km from Nairobi. Electricity costs are high at approximately USD 0.20/kWh, and the monthly electricity bill reaches KES 100,000–500,000. Electricity consumption is higher during the day and lower at night.
The Response
The system combines Megatank energy storage with a school-scale photovoltaic array.
